How long does it take?
Most battery replacements are same-day. The physical swap takes 30 to 60 minutes. We then run a charge-discharge cycle to confirm the new cell reports correctly to macOS. Plan to leave the machine with us for two to three hours, or book a morning slot and collect in the afternoon.
Original, OEM, or used? We tell you upfront
Dr. MacBook uses three part grades:
- Original Apple batteries — pulled from donor machines or service-stock packs. Best cycle health, highest cost.
- New OEM-grade cells — third-party batteries built to Apple’s voltage and thermal specs. The price-to-life ratio most customers choose.
- Quality used — lower cycle count donor batteries for older machines where the customer wants the cheapest safe option.

When should you replace the battery?
Apple labels a battery as “service recommended” when capacity drops below 80% or cycle count exceeds the design limit. In real use that means:
- You get less than three hours of light use unplugged.
- The MacBook shuts down unexpectedly even though the meter shows 20–40%.
- The trackpad feels stiff or the bottom case is bulging — a swollen battery can push the casing apart.

The honest verdict: when NOT to replace
We turn jobs away if the battery is not the real problem. If your MacBook is also overheating, has liquid damage, or the logic board draws too much current, a new battery will drain fast again. We test the full charging circuit before we quote.
We also advise against battery replacement on machines with multiple failed components — a 2015 MacBook Air with a dead screen, bad keyboard, and dying battery is usually cheaper to replace as a unit than to rebuild.
Can you just keep it plugged in?
Yes, but it is not ideal. A dead battery can swell over time, especially in Bangkok’s heat. It also removes your built-in UPS — one power cut and you lose unsaved work. If the machine is your daily driver, replacing the battery is the safer option.
What about data?
Battery replacement does not touch your SSD or files. Still, we always advise a Time Machine or cloud backup before any repair. We do not guarantee against data loss — no repair shop can.
